We now make it easy for every DIY homeowner to install moulding in a room, by selling 4-piece bundles. See the specific conditions...

The most challenging part of every crown moulding installation is cutting THE PERFECT COPE on one end of the moulding profile. It’s the first thing we do before putting a new shipment in stock.

Here’s how we make the perfect cope. After the wood has been stored for at least a week, we place it on a very long and level cutting table. Using our special saws (actually they are also very expensive), we cut THE PERFECT COPE every time. You can see how we do it in this video.

We now make it easy for every DIY homeowner to install moulding in a room or two or three. However, since we are not really in the business of selling retail, please excuse our limited offerings. These bundles are also not available at every location.

Each bundle contains four 16 foot lengths of moulding (with THE PERFECT COPE on one end). Come prepared to safely transport them home. We reserve the right to limit the following: Number of bundles, profiles available, hours of retail operation, credit card sales to homeowners only, no cash, bundle sales only.
You can see the different profiles we offer here.

If you are unhappy with your results, here’s how we can help you out: WE GIVE YOU ALL OF YOUR MONEY BACK “IF” you hire us at our usual rates to redo the same room. We’ll even install brand new moulding of the same profile. All we ask is that you remove any moulding you installed so we do not have to charge you a demolition fee.

Deal Radar 2010 writes about Just Moulding and the moulding market...

From this article: http://www.sramanamitra.com/2010/05/03/deal-radar-2010-just-moulding/

“Just Moulding is an interior design firm that is using a franchise model with strong online and software components to change a business “usually handled by skilled carpenters in an unskilled manner.”

Just Moulding was founded by Mark Rubin and Kevin Wales and has its headquarters in Maryland with a business in Washington, DC. Both founders had backgrounds in IT and were tired of working for other people. Rubin was keen to start his own brand, and Wales had some experience in light carpentry. The company currently has franchises in Boston, Massachusetts; Richmond, Virginia; and Washington, DC.

Moulding is usually made out of pine or poplar and can be put on walls, floors, ceilings, or architectural designs. Building and installing it requires skill because it is often placed on the seam where the ceiling meets the wall, such that from a cross-section view, the three sides (moulding, wall, and ceiling) form a hollow triangle. Creating corners that join together properly is an especially delicate task. Just Moulding created a process to use lasers, digital protractors, and its own software to replace skilled workers. After measurements are taken, Just Moulding creates the moulding or other trim offsite and returns to install it.

Rubin says that the moulding market is immature, and it’s difficult to estimate its total size. On one hand, of course every home has walls and ceilings. On the other hand, the moulding market (materials only) in the United States is just under $3 billion. Given that materials cost is around 10% of the installed service cost, Just Moulding believes that the current installed market size is $30 billion. From the other direction, each home has about 2.5 rooms without moulding. This works out to around $2,000 in business per home. According the 2000 census, there were about 105.5 million occupied housing units in the country, about 66% (~70 million) of which were detached or attached single-family units, for a TAM of $139 billion not counting apartments or condos.

The target market is homes built in the past 20 to 30 years with little or no interior trim. The best targets are large neighborhoods with a few home models and big builders doing generic work, and condos are another successful market.

The company gets about 250,000 hits a year to its website. In Washington, DC, this works out to between 60 and 100 leads a month. Just Moulding converts about 70% of these leads to installations, with an average job size of $2,000. Installation time is usually one week but can be as short as one day. The local business in the DC market does about $650,000 in revenues. Revenues from the three franchises cannot be disclosed owing to compliance reasons, but they bring total revenues to over $1 million.

Rubin says there is little in the way of organized competition. Many competitors with a large online presence, such as Moulding and Millwork, are wholesalers only. Business is also often regionally based; for example, The Crown Moulding Company serves the Phoenix, Tucson, Denver, and Colorado Springs areas. Just Moulding says that its franchise approach and online process make it fast, clean, and professional while beating the average price points. Just Moulding also creates and installs moulding and trim for hotels, office buildings and other commercial spaces, and in this market it positions itself as delivering a product superior to that of general contractors, which often must create thousands of feet of trim at once.

The founders raised about $700,000 through a private placement, put in some of their own funds, and grew organically from there. Just Moulding is seeking an additional $500,000 to build out a solid franchise sales engine; all of the other components of the business are built. The company would like to complete the money-raising by July 1. The ideal investor is someone who is in the franchising space, already has several franchise brands under their belt, and wants to add another brand to their portfolio.

Rubin and his team plan to franchise the concept until they reach 100 franchises or $100 million in sales and then sell to an existing franchise brand that wants another in-home service targeting the same customer base.”

July 6, 2010 Gaithersburg, MD – A company that cuts corners and compromises quality, safety and their reputation is usually regarded with contempt and outrage. (In fact, many recent news headlines have accused a major corporation of cutting corners. We don’t want to mention any names, but its initials are B and P.)

However, there is one home improvement company that is hired to do exactly that.

Just Moulding cuts corners on every job. Perfect, precise corners. And customers are pleased that they do.

Just Moulding is a niche concept in the in-home service industry segment. The company offers custom design and installation of interior architectural mouldings such as crown, chair rail and wainscoting. Just Moulding developed a special proprietary system for taking precise measurements, as almost every corner of every room is either slightly more or less than a perfect 90°. With Just Moulding’s unique methods, the majority of cutting and fabrication happens in their state-of-art workshops— and accurate measurements make the finished job look perfect, even if the walls and angles are not perfectly straight.

Installing crown moulding is a common DIY home improvement project. But, it’s not as easy as it looks. An anonymous writer gives very precise instructions on the eHow website. But he does not forget to warn the end-user of undertaking such a project: “Installing crown molding is one of the most demanding and potentially frustrating projects a DIY’er can take on. You are working with walls that aren’t “true” and angles that are different at every corner. Installing crown molding demands accuracy and skill in measuring, cutting and installing. Mistakes are obvious and can be expensive. It is not a job for an inexperienced person.”

Founder Kevin Wales is a moulding expert and explains the challenges of installing moulding to customers. “I often tell clients that even if they understand the math involved in a moulding project, they often don’t have the tools to measure precisely and cope the wood to ensure a perfect fit. Because it’s all we do, we have the resources to do the job right, in less time and with less mess than a homeowner can do it alone.”

Just Moulding is based in Gaithersburg, MD and has locations in Washington, DC, Richmond, VA, and Boston MA. For more information contact Claudine Rubin, Director of Marketing at 301-237-6922 or 877-377-8746, or visit www.justmoulding.com.

Pat Duncan, a Richmond entrepreneur, says his decision to open a Just Moulding franchise is the result of . . .

RICHMOND, Va., June 14 — With the building trades struggling to recover from an economic bust, one former Caterpillar construction equipment sales manager has gone solo with his own business, launching a new franchise providing custom home interior moulding with a high-tech edge to the Greater Richmond area.
Pat Duncan, a Richmond entrepreneur, says his decision to open a Just Moulding franchise is the result of some intense homework looking into start-ups with promising growth opportunities.

“This is one home remodeling area that is really taking off,” says Duncan. “Custom moulding is less expensive than new carpet or paint, but adds more to a home’s value. We’re very similar to Next Day Blinds — which carved out a new market in an old industry. We’re going to do the same here. We provide a visual ‘wow’ to our customers’ home or business to improve their property value.”

Just Moulding offers custom design and installation of interior architectural mouldings such as crowns, chair rails and wainscoting in homes and commercial facilities, including offices and hotels. The concept is based on a special proprietary system for taking precise measurements. With Just Moulding’s unique methods, the majority of cutting and fabrication happens in their state-of-the-art workshops — they never cut inside a customer’s home, minimizing the dust and time involved in the installation.

“We take a very professional, process approach that focuses on providing our services with minimum interruption to the customer,” says Duncan. “We are only on-site to install and we do all the ‘manufacturing’ prior to arrival. This saves the customer time and reduces the amount of inconvenience.”

Duncan spent almost 30 years with two Caterpillar dealers in the construction and material handling industries, starting as a management trainee and working his way up the corporate ladder. After exploring several business opportunities, he selected Just Moulding because of its innovative concept and niche in the home services sector.

According to Just Moulding CEO Mark Rubin, more homeowners are choosing to invest in their current home than move elsewhere.

“Consumers are predicted to continue spending money on their homes, and our concept focuses on existing homes, which may be a little older and in need of renovations or some additional personality,” he explains.
